Summary

While working at Foodboom, a fast growing startup for cooking content, I was part of the product team, which was responsible for gaining reach and connecting with the target audience through digital channels. Besides website optimization, where users could find all the foodboom recipes, we developed an app as well as an Alexa skill, which both should support users during their cooking experience.

Challenges + solutions

1. Defining customer journeys + product USP

Since foodboom already had a recipe website, it was important to define unique values for the foodboom app as well as for the voice skill. Based on user testing, the app shall explain the recipes in more depth, step by step, supporting the user during the cooking process. Future features ideas, were e.g. also a shopping ingredient list, as well as a weekly cooking plan, to make the cooking and ingredient shopping experience as efficient as possible.

2. Displaying recipes via voice skill

The voice skill was an trial and error project, giving me the freedom to test different use cases and the time to dive into the voice skill concept development. After some user testing, we came to the conclusion that a voice skill that really had a value shall also support some visuals, to display helping videos or the foodboom step by step recies. Thereby the voice skill was optimized for the Amazon Echo. By asking open questions like "What shall I cook today?" or " Give me a fast recipe with zucchini!" - the user shall furthermore get some inspiration on what to cook.
